Reception – Year 6

SPRING 2010

WELSH:

Children will be introduced to topic-related vocabulary throughout the term, and be involved in a variety of differentiated activities so that their knowledge, understanding and skills will be developed within an integrated programme of speaking and listening, reading and writing.

Topics to be studied are:

RECEPTION:  Topic-related activities following the Scheme Joio dan 5

YEAR 1:          Lliwiau (Colours) and Y Tywydd (The Weather)

YEAR 2:         Ar lan y Môr (The Seaside) and Tedi Twt ar lan y Môr

                       (Tedi Twt at the Seaside)

YEAR 3:         Y Pentref (The Village) and Y Tywydd (The Weather)

YEAR 4:         Bwyd (Food) and Gwyliau yn Sbaen (Holidays in Spain)

YEAR 5:         Y Dref (The Town) and Ein Byd Ni (Our World)

YEAR 6:          Hamdden (Leisure) and Pa Glwb? (Which Club?)

        Welsh folk-tales and traditional stories will be used and Welsh cultural and historical information will be introduced to ensure the Curriculum Cymreig is addressed throughout all classes.

 

MUSIC:

        This term the emphasis will be on Curriculum Cymreig.

All classes will study a range of music chosen to provide opportunities to appreciate what is distinctive about Welsh music. They will develop and extend their knowledge about the role of music in the beliefs, traditions and practices in Wales both in past times and in contemporary life.

        Reception will undertake a project based on the title music for Fireman Sam. The rest of our pupils will listen and respond to Welsh brass band music, orchestral and vocal music, traditional folk songs and folk music, choral music, piano and harp music, viol music, film music, hymns and our National Anthem. The music studied will range in time from the 16thand 17th centuries to the 20th century.

        Year 3 will be undertaking an ICT Project on Sounds while Year 6 will also be involved in the Music Together Project – classroom orchestra work
