Spellings

Pupils will have weekly spellings sent home in a GREEN spelling book every Monday. Pupils will then have a week to learn their spellings and will be tested on them the following week. It is VERY important that the GREEN spelling books are returned to school every Monday so new spellings may be added.

Welcome to Year 3

Welcome to Y3! Here you will find important information relating to Y3, from homework to events, we hope to have it all covered!

Don't forget to visit the Kidzone page attached where you can find games that are linked to our Y3 learning.

Homework – 26th January

Spellings – You will need to revise your spellings for the ‘ow’ pattern. You will be tested on these words next Monday. There will be no new spellings next week as the pupils will undertake a test based on all the previous spelling patterns they have learnt since joining Year 3.  New spellings will resume the week before half term.

Big Write Talking Homework – For our Big Write this week (Fri 28th) we will be focusing on writing a play script again. Everyone did very well with this last week, so I cannot wait to see the results this time! You will be working in pairs to carry on with the jungle play scripts we started in class this week. As you know, this is quite a tricky format of writing with lots of elements you will need to remember to include, so please talk to your family about this at home as they can help you with your ideas.  You will need to know what is going to happen in your story, as well as having to think about ‘stage directions’ and ‘sound affects’ and don’t forget that you need to take a new line for every person that speaks!

Maths – Your times tables test next week will be on the ______ tables.

Something Extra – the school has been invited to take part in a Creative Writing Competition to help celebrate Cowbridge Book Festival. This is a great opportunity for everyone to show off all the skills they have been developing as part of the Big Write as the competition, and I for one cannot wait to see the results, I am sure there will be some fantastic entries!  Full details of the competition can be found on the school website, but entries must be in school no later than the 23rd March.
