Topic subjects
Our topic this term is a Geography skills based topic – St Lucia and pirates. Skills in Geography will therefore concentrate on locating St Lucia and asking what is it like? Using photographs, maps and other sources such as the internet we’ll find out what the landscape, climate, buildings, and plants are like. We will be comparing these to our own area and also to some of our partner schools. We’ll use features of the landscape to mix tropical colours in art. Hopefully the island will inspire us to create a weaving to represent how we feel and what we think of this Island. We’ll learn how the islanders benefit from Fair Trade and discover the history of Pigeon Island and its Pirates. We will investigate what food is grown and eaten on St Lucia so we can design and make a healthy Caribbean drink based on Fair Trade products. Our science will therefore consider what our bodies need for a healthy diet and examine how environmental factors affect what grows by comparing the environment of St Lucia to St Brides.
