NEWSLETTER - SPRING TERM NO: 1
Dear Parents,
Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! Happy New Year to you all and my very best wishes for 2012. I hope that you all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas – it seemed to be over so quickly. It is great to see everyone back at school and this promises to be a term full of excitement and great learning opportunities.
DVD ORDERS
It is still possible to order a DVD of the Christmas Concerts. The DVD contains both infant and junior concerts and is available at a price of £12. Please send your order in to Mrs. Money no later than Friday 13th January. Cheques should be made payable to SLR Creations.
BIG MERIT
Our first ‘Big Merit’ of the year will be held on Friday 27th January at 9.15a.m in the school hall. Please join us to celebrate the achievements of our school family – it is always lovely to see you.
BUILDING UPDATE
We are expecting building work on the foundation phase area to commence towards the end of January. You will be kept informed of the progress made and any effect this will have on the way in which you access the school. We are all very excited about the start of our redevelopment. It is anticipated that this phase will be completed by the end of April.
SCHOOL LUNCH
School lunch is available at a cost £1.90 per day. Please pay in advance on a Monday for the week ahead. Payments (Cash Only) may be sent to Mrs. Money and it is possible to pay termly, also in advance. As most of you are aware, you are now able to make payments over the phone directly to the Vale. If any of you are unsure about this process, or are new to the school, please contact Mrs. Money for further assistance. NB: Any arrears over two weeks will be referred as a ‘bad debt’ to the Vale Catering Service
UNIFORM
A full list of school uniform is available on the school website and will also be included in the forthcoming ‘Curriculum News.’ It would be appreciated if pupils could wear the correct school uniform, remembering that shoes must be worn for school and not trainers (which should be worn only for PE/Games). N.B: Pupils who do not have a PE kit in school will not be able to take part in PE lessons for health and safety reasons. If you have any queries relating to school uniform or if there is anything that I can assist with, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school. I will be happy to help and advise you. Our main uniform suppliers are ‘Uniform 2 Go’ in Bridgend Industrial Estate. Thank you for your cooperation.
SPARE CLOTHING
As always our reception staff are always grateful for any spare clothing, underwear etc that is donated to the school. If you have anything you wish to donate, please see Mrs. Claire Jones or Mrs. Miriam Leyshon. Thank you.
PUNCTUALITY & ARRANGEMENTS FOR ARRIVING AT SCHOOL
I appreciate that on rare occasions it may be difficult to arrive at school by the time school begins – 8.55a.m. If you are late and arrive any time later than 9.10a.m, please enter school via the main entrance and report to Mrs. Money. If a pupil is persistently late, this will affect their attendance levels and we would appreciate it if every effort is made to arrive at school in good time to ‘line up’ on the yard.
The children are really starting to improve the way in which they line up and enter school in the morning. We are encouraging independence in the younger children and good discipline throughout the school. When teachers arrive on duty at 8.50a.m, pupils are expected to begin to line up ready for the start of the day. The teachers would be most grateful if parents would retreat to the infant yard once their child is in line. This would allow the teachers to lead the children in silently, and independent of their parents. If you wish to see your child’s teacher, they would be happy to see you before 8.50a.m or alternatively an appointment may be made for a mutually convenient time. I am usually available at the start of the day should you wish to see me.
ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL
If your child is ill and unable to attend school, please telephone the school no later than 9.15a.m to inform us. If a child is not in school and we have not been informed, this can be most worrying from a safety point of view. If this should happen, parents will be contacted in order to establish the safety of the child. Messages may be left on the school answer phone prior to school hours. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
MEDICATION
If your child requires the use of an asthma pump, please would you request a medication form from Mrs. Money. The form must then be completed and returned to school with the asthma pump labeled with your child’s name. If your child requires other regular medication, please contact us for advice. If pupils are on a course of antibiotics, these must be administered by parents or carers. Thank you for your cooperation.
ADVANCE NOTICE
Monday 23rd April is an INSET day and the school will be closed on that day. This day immediately follows the Easter holidays. Therefore school will resume on Tuesday 24th April.
A full list of dates for this term will be sent with the ‘Curriculum News.’ You will all receive the Governing Body’s Annual Report to Parents next week, along with nomination forms for Parent Governor so there’s a lot to look out for!
I look forward to seeing you soon. Have a lovely weekend and let’s hope we get some sunshine!
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. M. C. Matthews
