NEWSLETTER - SPRING TERM NO: 3
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that we are a week away from half term, which means we are halfway through the academic year. Time is flying by and soon Spring will be upon us, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the moment! Here are some notices and reminders:
FAMILY SERVICE – SUNDAY 5TH FEBRUARY 11.00A.M. ST BRIDGET’S CHURCH
Please join us for our family service on Sunday, when Year 5 will be leading the worship. We celebrated the feast day of St. Bridget earlier on this week and held some great entertainment in the hall. Thank you to all who attended. It would be wonderful to see you on Sunday to join with us in celebrating the life of our special Saint.
YEAR 2 COFFEE MORNING
Parents of pupils in year 2 are invited to a coffee morning on Wednesday 8th February 2012. Please join us at 9.00a.m where you will have an opportunity to meet with Mrs. Jenkins, who will be covering Mrs. Wade’s maternity leave. The class will perform for you and there will also be an opportunity to liaise with the learning support assistants in the class. Father Philip will join us for worship at 10.15a.m and you are most welcome to stay.
PUPIL ILLNESS
It is that time of year when there seem to be lots of colds, coughs and stomach bugs about. We are encouraging good hygiene around the school. However, as a reminder, should your child suffer from sickness and diarrhea, please refrain from sending them to school for 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea. If your child has a rash, please ensure that you consult a doctor before sending them to school. We would be most grateful if you comply with these guidelines.
COLLECTING CHILDREN FROM SCHOOL
As you are all aware, the area surrounding school is extremely busy at the end of the school day. However, I would be most grateful if you could refrain from using the main school gates when collecting your child from school or from an after school club. There is constantly traffic using this gate , therefore, for safety reasons, children should not use this entrance. The only children permitted to use this entrance are those who are using bicycles. Please use the gate on the infant yard to enter the school. I have also received complaints from local residents about cars being parked outside their drives. The community police officer has been informed of this matter and will regularly monitor this situation. I apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
If your child is being collected from school by someone other than yourselves, please inform us in writing, even if it is someone we know, or another parent in your child’s class. If we do not have a letter regarding this or you have not contacted us, we will be unable to release your child from school. I am sure that you will appreciate the safety reasons for this policy.
LITTLE VISITORS!
I am regularly asked advice about dealing with headlice. From time to time headlice are a problem in all schools and we advise pupils with long hair to tie it back at all times. If you visit the Welsh Assembly Government health and safety website, there is information for parents regarding headlice. Here is the address:

BUILDING UPDATE
The redevelopment of the Foundation Phase area was due to commence this week. However, there has been a delay. I will keep you updated on this matter. A letter outlining health and safety arrangements will be sent to you in due course, but your access to school should not be affected in any major way. Please note that for a twelve week period from the start of the build, there will be no parking in the school grounds at any time and no access through the main school gates. As all parents are requested to use the entrance on the infant yard, there should be no problem. More details to be sent shortly.
PARENT WORKSHOPS
As you are probably aware, we like to run a series of parent workshops throughout the year to keep you informed of the curriculum, teaching methods and how you can help at home. To assist us in meeting your needs, please complete the reply slip below (I am afraid I forgot to add the reply slip in the last newsletter!) and return to school as soon as possible. Workshops are always held twice, once during the school day and once during the evening, to accommodate all who wish to attend. We would be grateful for your feedback.
I look forward to seeing you soon. Have a great weekend – enjoy the start of the six nations and wrap up warm, it looks as though it’s going to be very cold!
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. M. C. Matthews
Headteacher
