Welcome to Reception and Year One
Important Information
Can we please remind you to ensure that your child's reading books and red diary are returned to school every day. If your child's book is in school every day then we will listen to them read every day. This will make such a difference to their progress. Thank you.
Year 1 have Sports Stars on a Friday, which will always be held outside if the weather is dry. Please can you make sure that your child has a warm kit and trainers. They won't be able to take part if they don't have these, which would be such a shame as the sessions are so much fun.
Just to clear up any confusion, homework for both Reception and Year 1 is given out on a Tuesday and should be returned the following Monday. We apologise for the mistake which was corrected very promptly on the website.
Our Topic - Our Wonderful Garden. This term our topic is 'Our Wonderful Garden / Food and Farming.' By popular demand the children in year 1 have decided to change the Florists into a Pet shop/grooming parlour/vetinary centre. If you have any equipment that we could use within this role play area donations would be much appreciated. Thank you.
This term your children will participate in a variety of learning styles that will include outdoor learning and learning through play; this will be in compliance with both the National Curriculum and Outcomes for 3 to 7 year olds in Wales in the Foundation Phase. Please refer to the Summer Curriculum News for more in depth information about the areas of learning.
Home/school task
We are introducing history starting with the children’s own experiences – the past through the eyes of their Grandparents and other relatives. Discuss how life was different for their grandparents and particularly how their great-grand-parents had to behave and the rules they had to follow at home and at school - children were seen and not heard! Ask how this differs from their own lives. What sorts of things could their grandparents do or not do compared to them. This will really help your child to have a better understanding of the topic.
