Welsh

Newyddion Cymraeg!

As you are aware, in Saint Brides we are very proud of our ‘Welshness’!  We feel a way of promoting the language in our school is to introduce a Ymadrodd yr Wythnos - Phrase of the Week

We have been approached by a number of parents whose children are demonstrating an increased interest in the Welsh language and feel they would like support at home. Therefore, each half term a list of the Welsh phrase of the week we are focussing on in school will be uploaded onto our school website to be practised at home. Here are some phrases we have focussed on so far:

  • Esgusodwch fi! -  Excuse me!
  • Ble rwyt ti’n byw? - where do you live?
  • Faint o gloch  ydy hi? – What time is it?
  • Sut mae’r tywydd? What is the weather?
  • Ble mae...? Where is...?

As a staff we committed to raising the profile of the Welsh language in our school; in fact Global Target number 1 on our School Development Plan is :

  • To raise the standards of learners communication skills in Welsh and their bilingual competence.

For more information on the importance of Bilingualism in Saint Brides Major Primary school please see the PowerPoint below that supports this year’s parent workshop.

  • Please watch this space for news of new clubs, most recent Ymadrodd yr Wythnos and of course await all the exciting news from the annual residential visit to Llangrannog!
